Learn How Students use Mind Mapping for Notes, Writing Comp. and Time Management.
Mind Mapping is theory based and proven to be great for planning, brainstorming, and reading and writing comprehension for both students and adults. Learn how individuals can overcome difficulties with Anxiety, Blank Page Syndrome, Feeling Overwhelmed, Confusion on Assignments and Time Management. Individuals with or without learning disabilities can benefit from Mind Mapping, but specifically, it can be helpful for individuals that have been diagnosed with ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism, Executive Function Disorder, etc.
In this interactive presentation, attendees will be guided through Mind Mapping best practices on how to visually organize topics, research, cite and reference information, and export data in any academic format, such as APA, MLA, etc. Furthermore, we will illustrate when Mind Mapping is paired with technology how it can enhance creativity, clarify thinking and improve understanding of the subject at hand.

Brandon Conrad, Product Manager at MatchWare Inc., is considered to be an expert in mind mapping software. His specialty is bridging the gap between mind mapping technology and children’s learning behaviors. Over the past 10 years, Brandon has been a key player in the development of assistive features as they relate to mind mapping software. Prior to MatchWare, Brandon worked with children diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, Aspergers and other behavioral disorders. Utilizing the techniques of Applied Behavior Analysis, he focused on shaping children’s behavior to “mainstream” them into the traditional classroom and become independent in their residential setting. With degrees in economics and psychology, Brandon brings a unique skill set to mind mapping and assistive tools.
Paddy Heaton is the Event & Community lead at Glean. He hosts the Note Taking Support Network – a 1000-person strong community of disability services professionals who discuss how to support students with note taking accommodations. He has previously spoken at conferences including AHEAD, CAST, CSUN, and Accessing Higher Ground.
