The primary function of the Kentucky Accessible Materials Database (KAMD) is to provide K-12 Kentucky public schools with a way to discover instructional materials available in digital format, and to provide a method for schools to acquire these digital materials for use by qualified students with disabilities while at the same time protecting the publishers’ intellectual property rights (i.e., copyright).

- Serves as a state repository for accessible materials for K-12 schools
- Prepares and provides NIMAS files in student-ready format.
- Disseminates accessible materials to authorized users
- Provides training and technical assistance on accessible technology tools and accessible content
- Hosts a tracking system that maximizes copyright protection.
- To assist with awareness efforts and development of materials to increase consumer understanding and use of accessible digital materials.
Eligibility Requirements and Application Process
Only students with verified print disabilities in the categories of blindness, visual impairment, physical disability impacting ability to hold a book or turn pages and reading disorder from organic dysfunction ARE eligible. Proof of disability is required. The student’s school is responsible for the application.
