The primary function of the Kentucky Accessible Materials Database (KAMD) is to provide K-12 Kentucky public schools with a way to discover instructional materials available in digital format, and to provide a method for schools to acquire these digital materials for use by qualified students with disabilities while at the same time protecting the publishers’ intellectual property rights (i.e., copyright).
Bookshare is an eBook library that makes reading easier. People with reading barriers like dyslexia, blindness, and physical disabilities can read in ways that work for them with a huge collection of titles in audio, audio + highlighted text, braille, and other formats. Bookshare is FREE for all qualified U.S. students and schools, and $79.99 per year for all other members. And with over one million titles, you will find virtually any book for school, career, or leisure in one convenient place.
Since 1858, the American Printing House for the Blind has addressed the problems of individuals who are blind by providing accessible educational, workplace, and independent-living products. They are a non-profit organization that has existed in Kentucky since it’s it inception. To assist non-visual learners to experience geometry, geography, anatomy, science diagrams and graphs that cannot be converted into ordinary Braille, APH creates Tactile Graphics that allow someone to feel and understand visual concepts. This includes Maps, Charts, Diagrams, Illustrations, Scientific and Mathematical representations.
