The Kentucky Talking Book Library (KTBL) provides free library service to people who cannot read traditional print because they have a visual, physical, or reading disability.
KTBL has been in operation since 1969 and is part of a national network of libraries administered by the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled, a branch of the Library of Congress.
Features
- Free of charge for any resident of Kentucky who has difficulty reading standard print material or who is unable to hold a book and turn the pages
- Audible books include fiction, non-fiction, Bibles, magazines, newspapers, and children’s material
- Digital players are provided at no charge
- Materials have no due dates
- Free return shipping with Free Matter for the Blind
- Infants and preschool children that are served through private agencies are eligible
- KTLB works with NLS Music Service to provide Braille, large print, & audio music instruction and music scores
Eligibility Requirements and Application Process
Applications are available online or by phone. Only students with verified print disabilities in the categories of blindness, visual impairment, physical disability impacting ability to hold a book or turn pages and reading disorder from organic dysfunction ARE eligible. Proof of disability is required.
