Hands-On & Make-in-Take with BoardMaker!

Come check out the tremendous number of ways you can use this visual support software program with your students!  This is a great opportunity for teachers and para-educators working with non-verbal students, ELL students and others benefiting from combining picture symbols with written words to encourage language and communication.

BoardMaker offers over 44 languages which can support students and families learning various languages so don’t think of it as just a "special ed" tool!

Participants will learn basic/advanced skills and be provided with numerous additional resources, hundreds of templates and other helpful classroom tips and techniques to engage all learners.

Come prepared to create a bounty of materials to take back to your classroom! (Bring your personal flash drives--highly recommended!)

Read & Write Gold – Many Tools to Help Many Students!

This software, available in most schools in Kentucky, has a wide variety of tools to help students with reading, writing, math and research.

Come learn the basics of text-to-speech, word prediction, dictation, information gathering, and other supportive learning tools.

Participants will learn how to use Read & Write to assist students with learning disAbilities and other "mild" disAbilities become more independent learners in resource and regular classrooms.

Communication Devices: Low to High Tech - Hands On!

Come explore the basics of using communication devices from objects, eye-gaze, and single-message devices to mid-level devices to dynamic screen displays and today’s new hand-held computerized communication devices.
Time permitting in the afternoon, we will explore one or more basic communication software programs.

Call for Volunteers: Creating Digital Accessible Books

Come explore the basics of creating accessible children’s books for young children with print challenges.

This is a great opportunity to learn & share basic computer skills such as:
creating a digital image by scanning a book into the computer, cropping/rotating/cleaning up digital images using software already on your computer, creating audio files by recording your voice into the computer using a free software program, proofing audio files and making audio corrections to your audio/WAV files, and creating picture support materials using Mayer-Johnson’s BoardMaker software program.

We have created step-by-step directions to assist basic-level computer users!

Our new Library of Digital Accessible Books needs your help so that more children can have access to literacy.

Don’t be shy, come join us! Snacks & Community Service Recognition provided.

This program eligible for Disney’s Give A Day-Get A Day and United Way of the Bluegrass’s Concert in the Park Events.

Summer Week-Long Opportunity

Are you interested in attending a week-long training opportunity during the summer? We would love to spend the week exploring devices, software, strategies and funding for all types of student learners with a small group of people.  Let us know if you are interested and what week would work best for you by emailing us at office@bluegrass-tech.org.

Based on responses we will let you know more details!

Consideration for participant slots will be given based on date of first responses so email us now.

All sessions require advance registration.

Space is limited and sessions typically fill up quickly so register early!  A waiting list will be maintained when sessions are closed. Check session descriptions above to make sure you mark your calendar correctly!

Cancellation Policy

Registration and payment reserves space in the training event for your participation.  Space is limited per training per session descriptions.  We understand the nature of providing services to individuals with disabilities and understand that last minute emergencies arise.  However, the registration fees cover all the costs associated with each training event and preparation.  Therefore, it is BTC's policy to only refund payment for cancellations received 48 hours in advance of the training date.
