Final Preparations for Wednesday's 874K Event

TO: Attendee Groups and Volunteers for Wednesday’s 874K Advocacy Event

We’re in the stretch run on our preparations for Wednesday’s third 874K Advocacy Event!

I have attached the four pieces that will go into the packets for legislators and the press.  They will also be available in Braille and large-print.  In the Rotunda, we will have sign language interpreters and real-time captioning available.

Senate President Pro Tem Katie Stine will give the official greeting from the Kentucky Senate (we had House Speaker Greg Stumbo at the first event and Governor Steve Beshear at the second event).  Sen. Stine will also have a Senate Resolution introduced when the Senate goes into session, declaring March 3rd Disabilities Awareness Day in the Commonwealth.  We are also looking for a number of area legislators to speak in the Rotunda to address the needs of 874,000+ Kentuckians with disabilities.

Christin has ordered 425 boxed lunches, so we’re looking for a big crowd
We will be using Room 113 of the Capitol Annex as our gathering and organizing location.  We ask for volunteers to be there by 9:00 on Wednesday morning to receive your neon-colored volunteer vest and your assignment.  When you arrive with your group of visitors, have someone check in with us in Room 113 to receive your group’s backpacks and stickers and to get directions, etc.

We will have the packets already stuffed and will have the legislator packets sorted by floor (2nd, 3rd or 4th) with a volunteer stationed there to make sure that groups going in to see a legislator have an informational packet to give him/her.  Don’t forget to invite the legislators to come by the Rotunda between 1 and 2 p.m. to say a few words!

If you are bringing a group on Wednesday, please have a list of the names of all the attendees ready to give the security guard at the front entrance of the Capitol Annex.  The guards have been alerted that we will have numbers of folks there and they are prepared to expedite the entrance into the Annex building, if the lists are given to them.

Boxed lunches will be available in the cafeteria (basement level) beginning at 10:40 a.m. and continuing until 12:30.  We have reserved the back area of the dining room for the 874K attendees.

Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, etc.  My cell is 502-836-4222 and Christin’s is 502-418-9320.

Thanks for your advocacy!
